New Delhi: An aptitude test for admissions into the central university colleges and institutes is likely to be introduced, very soon.A committee of Vice Chancellor’s (VC’s) has proposed the aptitude test for admission into undergraduate and postgraduate courses of all central university colleges and institutes.
The scores of the proposed aptitude test will be factored in over and above the school board results to determine admission into central university. Also, the committee recommends that the weightage of school results and the common test be fixed by individual universities.
As per sources, the proposal is being supported by the Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister, Kapil Sibal, and has all the possibilities of being approved. The minister said that the proposal will be fine-tuned, wider consultation will take place and universities will have the freedom to take it or leave it.
In addition, Mr Sibal mentioned that a committee has been formed, which is headed by Jawaharlal Nehru University’s (JNU), Vice Chancellor, B B Bhattacharya. The committee will submit its report on the subject in two months.
Even though, there is no problem with the current system. However, if the proposal gets approved and the test has been implemented, the system will lead to the emergence of a formal hierarchy of central universities. The system will also cause junking of successful subject based entrance tests of universities.
