New Delhi: The Bar Council of India (BCI) has derecognizes almost 30 law colleges across the country. The decision has been taken by BCI's regulating body for legal profession and education in the country, the Legal Education Committee on the basis of reports submitted by its inspection team.
The report revealed that law colleges had failed in meeting the academic standards specified by BCI. In addition, the Council has also issued notices to 20 other colleges across the country, as they too had failed to provide quality law education and did not meet the BCI standards. However, the council has said that the decision of disapproving the colleges will not affect the future of the 5000 students studying in these institutes as the courses will not be disrupted.
Professor V.B. Coutinho, Chairman, BCI's Directorate of Legal Education, has said that the conduction of inspections will be a continuous process. He said that they want to decrease the number of legal institutes that are growing all over India that provide legal education without proper infrastructure, faculty and other necessary facilities.
