Tiruchirapalli: Bharathidasan University (BDU) will start BS programme from this academic year i.e. 2010-2011. As per the university’s sources, the programme will be imparted in the field of Biotechnology, Bioinformatics and Geosciences, with an intake of 40 students in each course.The Government-aided and self-financing institutions, which are affiliated to the University, have shown interest of imparting the programme.
As per sources, the University has permitted its affiliated colleges to conduct BS programme in Electronics and Computer Science as well. Moreover, BS in Computer Science will be introduced by the University from the next academic year, through its Department of Computer Science.
BDU Vice-Chancellor Ponna Vaiko said that the proposal for the course was strongly backed by the Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore, Indian National Science Academy, New Delhi and the National Academy of Sciences, Allahabad.
