Pilani: The Physics exam of Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2010 was outperformed by a final year dual-degree student of Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani, named Ishan Mata. He was pursuing M. Sc (Hons) Physics and M. Sc (Hons) Mathematics in the institute. A press release revealed that Ishan scored 77.6 marks out of 100 in the entrance exam. He topped GATE 2010 by competing with 5578 candidates.
Ishan also outshined in the Joint Entrance Screening test 2010 (JEST 2010), which is conducted for admission into PhD program offered in IISc, Bangalore, Institute of Mathematical Sciences, Chennai, Harish Chandra Research Institute, Allahabad, Inter University Center for Astronomy and Astrophysics, Pune and other prominent institutions. In JEST Entrance Exam, which could be given in two subjects- Physics and Theoretical Computers, Ishan opted for Physics and scored 78.33 marks out of 100.
Ishan developed keen interest in Physics since Class 9. He has credited his excellent scores to his parents, especially to his father, who is a doctor and to the assistance provided by the faculty of BITS. After completion of his studies at BITS, Ishan thinks to pursue PhD in Theoretical Physics. Even he anticipates a lucrative career ahead.
