New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) likely to introduce a new aptitude test for class 10 students, next year. The new aptitude test will be called as Students' Global Aptitude Index (SGAI). SGAI will be available for students in all 10000 schools that are affiliated with the board. The first SGAI test will be held on January 15, 2011. Students have to pay a fee of Rs 100 to appear in the test. The test has been modified specially for Indian students.
According to CBSE, it will be a paper-pencil based test. Duration of the aptitude test will be two-and-half hours. The test will help in determining the subject orientations of students. The test will also help students in selecting the subjects or stream that they want to pursue after class 10. In addition, it will also help in knowing the scientific, numerical, social, behavioral science and art aptitudes of a student of Class 10.
As per a CBSE circular, SGAI aims to reduce difference between a student's aptitude and interests. This will help in further optimizing a students' potential, enhance satisfaction, increase motivation and also help in reducing wastage of human and financial resources. In addition, the circular also said that the test will also help parents, teachers and students to start discussions on various subject choices and the careers they lead to further in life.
The SGAI test has been tested on a group of secondary students from around 100 schools affiliated to CBSE across the country. The decision to conduct the test will lie with the schools. Moreover, the CBSE will also be organizing training workshops to familiarize school principals to the new aptitude test.
