Ahmedabad: This year, as yet another recruitment session that draws to a close at the elite Indian Institutes of Management -Ahmedabad (IIM- A), the consulting firms took over the finance sector to emerge as the largest recruiter at 5 sectors. IIM -Ahmedabad campus placements saw an average salaries improve over last year, but lag those offered in the boom year 2008.
During the placement procedure at IIM –A, consulting firms took the lead with 29 offers, and finance sector companies secured the second place with 27 offerings in their kitty. Interestingly, in 2009, in spite of the worldwide economic downturn, finance sector continued to be the highest recruiter lapping up 39 students, as against 24 picked up by the consulting firms.
As per sources, the average domestic salaries improved to Rs 14.94 lakh this year as against Rs 12.17 lakh in 2009, but stayed less than the 2008 levels of Rs 17.85 lakh. Average international salary stood at $1, 10,750, an improvement over last year’s figure of $83,000, but below $1.22 lakh offered in 2008.
Moreover, IIM-A on Monday i.e. March 8, 2010, announced placing 280 students from the flagship Postgraduate Management Programme (PGP) through four placement clusters, which was conducted over four weekends. In all, 110 firms participated in laterals and final placement process at the IIM-A.
