Chandigarh: On October 11, 2010, a top council official said that the corporate sector may get the permission from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to start engineering and other technical colleges. S S Mantha, Chairman, AICTE, said that companies formed under Section 25 of the Companies Act may be considered for this purpose. It may take one or two years to finalize the guidelines and modalities for implementation of this proposal, he added.
Anshu Kataria, Chairman, Aryans Business School said that it would help the engineering and technical education sector. Further, he told that this will not only attract big corporate houses to invest in education sector, but would also attract foreign direct investment (FDI). As per sources, only government, semi-government organizations, societies and trusts are allowed to begin educational projects so far.
Moreover, AICTE Chairman said that all the stakeholders should work together for the education system to improve. In addition, Mr. Mantha said that the council did not recognize distance education, though it has allowed double shift in the educational institutes. Furthermore, he told that the aim should be to get more and more eligible people into higher education.
