New Delhi: Delhi can establish its own Open University, said Kapil Sibal, Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister, at a meeting with Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit. The meeting was also attended by Delhi Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely.
At the meeting, Sheila Dikshit also stated her concern over the admission of students who have scored less than 40% marks in their school-leaving examination, as they are not able to get enrollment into School of Open Learning, University of Delhi.
The HRD Minister Sibal promised that the state government will get Rs 9 crore to make State Council Educational Research and Training (SCERT) and District Institute of Education Training (DIET) stronger. Moreover, Sibal promised to help Government of Delhi in spreading higher, technical and vocational education in the capital.
According to a government official, the Central Government would approach Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) to start large vocational education training in Delhi.
Though disappointed with the shortage of teachers in Delhi, the minister appreciated the city’s endeavor to make elementary education more purposeful.
He also indicated about the computerization in the state’s education department helping in online teacher’s attendance and a separate ID for every student.
