New Delhi: Good news for all engineering aspirants! Delhi Technological University (DTU) is all set to admit more students, at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, from the upcoming academic session 2010-11. As per sources, the academic council meeting chaired by P.B. Sharma, Vice Chancellor - DTU, had recommended the proposal on January 8, 2010.
DTU plans to add 230 seats in its B Tech courses and 72 seats in its M Tech programmes. Around 40 seats would be added in the B. Tech course in Biotechnology, increasing its intake from 20 to 60. In Polymer Science and Chemical Technology, 20 seats would be added, taking the number total number of seats to 60. In Environmental Engineering, the university is likely to increase seats from 30 to 60. In Civil Engineering, the total seats may be increased from 70 to 120. Computer Engineering is also set to see a raise. The current limit of 90 seats would be increased to 120. Production & Industrial Engineering may see an enhancement from 30 to 60 seats.
Presently, there are 14 academic programmes on offer, with an intake capacity of 910 students at the undergraduate level. This year onwards, DTU would admit students for both Delhi and outside-Delhi categories, on the basis of the rank obtained in the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) conducted by CBSE. Moreover, 18 seats are also likely to be added in each of the four new M Tech programmes - Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Geo-technology, Signal Processing and Digital Design - from the new academic session. This means an increase of 72 seats at the postgraduate level, from the current figure of 306.
