Mumbai: Duquesne University (DU) in Pittsburgh is offering two four-year undergraduate scholarships of 200000 dollars to Indian students. As per sources, each scholarship worth 25000 dollar per annum is for the university's fall 2011 semester. The scholarship is a part of university's effort to magnetize students from India.
Presently, the university has 10000 students in its campus, out of which 500 are international students. Helen Auckland, Assistant Director of International Admissions, Duquesne University is visiting 14 schools in Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad and Chennai in order to introduce university and courses to Indian students. As per sources, Auckland said that DU was well placed to provide students holistic education that incorporated subjects like environmental issues and sustainable development.
Further, Auckland added that they are looking for Grade B and above students with the right attitude towards a holistic approach to education, for the scholarships. The scholarship for the two selected students will cover their tuition fees for their business and science major courses, which work out to be around USD 27502 per annum. Each student gets USD 25000 annually.
In addition, Auckland told that they have retained the ethos of their founding Spiritans with liberal arts education in their curriculum, which prepares students for their lives ahead and has added value in the job market. They have a research grant of 12 million dollar and undergraduate research programmes on Environmental Sciences.
