Foreign Universities Entering India To Pay Rs 50 Crore for Registration

New Delhi: Foreign Educational Institutions (regulation of entry and operation) Bill made the publication of prospectus a mandatory process for all the foreign university who aspire to function in India. The step will not allow them to repatriate profit made from Indian campus though education.
 
According to the Foreign Educational Institutions Bill, new education providers settling down in India are ought to deposit an amount of Rs 50 crore with the body that will register them, which is the University Grants Commission (UGC). Moreover, the foreign universities will have to go through a series of registrations at various levels. But, the bill promises time bound registration to them.
 
After going through the application, the UGC would further advice the government if the university should be allowed to function in India. According to a ministry source, in case a foreign education provider wants to set up a campus in collaboration with a private Indian university, the foreign education provider will be responsible to come forward with the details of registration and collaboration.
