New Delhi: Government is likely to draft a bill to sanction the entry of foreign universities, during the parliament session that begins on Monday. According to the statement of an official, drafting the bill was a long-awaited reform, which is expected to revamp the country's education system.
Vibha Puri Das, Secretary for Higher Education has said that the ministry is taking all the necessary steps to finalize it (the bill) and send it to the cabinet and parliament. Ms Das has mentioned that the bill would be introduced in parliament in the budget session starting February 22, 2010. However, she declined to comment on a report the bill would be discussed by the federal cabinet during its meeting on Thursday.
Further, Goldman Sachs calculates the lack of quality education as one of the 10 factors holding India back from rapid economic growth. Moreover, the demand for graduates over the next five years is likely to be 13.8 million, analysts have estimated.
