New Delhi: The Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry has formed a panel to investigate the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) fake institute scam. As per sources, the HRD Ministry has formed the panel, in fulfillment of an order by the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC), to investigate the fake institute, Institute of Electrical Engineers, that was being operated by the faculty members of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) - Kharagpur.
Further, sources told that the panel comprises of three members. The three members of the panel are Pradip Mathur, Director, IIT-Indore, S K Jain, Director, IIT-Gandhinagar and the third member of the pane could be the IIT-Delhi Director Mr. Surendra Prasad. In addition, sources informed that the CVC has given a four weeks deadline to HRD Ministry to complete the investigation and submit their report on the scam.
Earlier, the HRD Ministry has planned to set up a three member committee comprising of IIT directors but after receiving directive from the CVC, the Ministry has changed its decision. The Ministry said that the investigation would be carried out by senior HRD officials. As per sources, now it has been finalized that the IIT directors would be allowed to carry out the investigation. West Bengal Police is also investigating the scam, sources added.
