New Delhi: On November 16, 2010, an official from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) said that a new programme on watershed management has been launched by the university. As per sources, the new programme will be commencing from January 1, 2011.
Further, the official told that the objectives of the programme are to develop human resource in watershed development and management, introducing the principles of watershed management approach and the value of working in watershed.
In addition, the official informed that it is also aimed at mobilization and capacity building of rural youth, landless women and developing skills for small scale irrigation and water supply structures for soil and water conservation strategies. Medium of instruction for the programme will be Hindi and English both, official added.
Moreover, the official told that regional languages will be added at a later stage. As per sources, general candidates who wants pursue the programme will have to spend Rs 9000. However, Below Poverty Line (BPL) candidates or candidates from rural areas or urban areas will have to pay Rs 4500. There is no constraint on age, sources added.
