Madurai: Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has launched an SMS facility to help the students studying in its Madurai Regional Centre. The facility was launched by the university's Regional centre recently. The new service will enable the students of 17 districts to receive regular updates and information about the university, its fee details, last date for payment, classes, special assignments and programmes etc.
IGNOU’s Regional Director, M. Shanmugham, said that it would help in bridging the gap between the local students and the university. Further, he informed that around 20000 students, pursuing courses with IGNOU, will be the beneficiaries of the facility.
As per the sources, the IGNOU regional centre would also be launching an interactive radio counseling programme on September 23, 2010, through Gyan Vani FM radio, which will be broadcast every Sunday.
