Allahabad: The Indian Institute of Information Technology - Allahabad (IIIT-A) has declared that e-contents of 18 subjects of Information Technology will be developed for all IT programmes in India. The decision has been taken by the institute as per the National Knowledge Process programme that was initiated by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD).
Aiming for widening education in IT sector in the northern parts of India, the MHRD has authorized IIIT-A to train mentors along with preparing e-learning modules for technological institutes, including Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT). He announced that the students would be able to access e-learning modules on ‘Sakshat’ website of Ministry of Human Resource Development, within a year. The modules will cover subjects like civil engineering, computer science, electronics, electrical, communication, mechanical engineering and other core science and humanities courses.
Furthermore, IIIT-A Director M.D. Tiwari proclaimed that the Ministry had allotted Rs 75 lakhs for the project and they had concluded the contents of 120 chapters, each for web courses and also video lectures. Talking about the curriculum for the e-learning modules, he said that it has been collected as per the model engineering programmes framed by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) and Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU).
Initially, almost 500 teachers, senior members of faculty and heads of about 50 well-known institutes were present, to provide their suggestions on the matter. In the future also, the experts from IIT-Madras, IIT-Kanpur, IIT-Delhi, IIIT-Allahabad and IIT-Guwahati will be involved, with the development of the courses.
By stressing on the flexible teaching methods, Tiwari said that the institute will focus on teaching methods for e-learning along with various experiments in virtual laboratories. It will also emphasize on online testing, certification and online guidance to the students by the teachers.
