Raipur: On Monday i.e. on October 11, 2010,the tenth Indian Institute of Management (IIM) was inaugurated at Raipur. The IIM was inaugurated in the presence of Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh, academician and management expert. Mr. Singh was the chief guest at the opening ceremony, which was chaired by Hari S Bhatia, Chairman of Board of Governors.
Mr. Singh said that Chhattisgarh has achieved 11.49 percent growth in state gross domestic product only because of proper management of its various public welfare schemes. Further, he added that the new building of the institute, to come up in the New Raipur region, would reflect the culture and heritage of Chhattisgarh.
As per sources, initially, IIM-Raipur is being mentored by IIM-Indore. The institute offers 70 seats for two-year postgraduate (PG) programme. The classes of IIM-Raipur will be held on the campus of government Engineering College until the institute gets its own address.
N Ravichandran, Director, IIM-Indore, will be the IIM-Raipur Mentor Director. He said that the faculty members will be outsourced from various IIMs, including IIM-Indore, although they have received 800 applications seeking jobs at IIM-Raipur. In addition, he said that the process of recruiting faculty would take sometime.
