New Delhi: Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister, Kapil Sibal said that the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) entrance exam i.e. Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) needs a renovation to discourage coaching institutes, as it is harmful to quality intake. Another reason to modify JEE is the problem of children appearing for multiple entrance exams, which causes financial and psychological pressure on the children and their family.
Sibal said that a committee has been formed under IIT Kharagpur director Damodar Acharya. The Acharya committee has given its report, which suggested the inclusion of weightage of class 12th result and a national level aptitude test for admission in engineering courses. It has been suggested in the report that the entrance exam system needs to be modify, but it is yet to finalize how. However, an agreement could not be built on the recommendations of the Acharya report.
Further, Sibal said that a committee has been formed under Science and Technology Secretary T. Ramasami and it will submit its report in three months. After that they will involve all IITs and have a full discussion on the issue.
