IIT Madras Students Demand Better Health Care Facility

Chennai: On Monday i.e. nearly 2,000 Indian Institute of Technology – Madras (IIT-Madras) students took out a rally demanding better health care facilities at the institute’s campus.

Students took out the rally a day after a hostel inmate died of cardiac arrest, in order to draw the attention of the authorities to the need for better emergency care.

As per sources, M Ragavendra, a third- year B Tech student, died on Sunday i.e. on March 14, 2010, after celebrating his birthday the previous night. He suffered a cardiac arrest and was rushed to the institute’s hospital.

Students who took part in the rally said if the hospital was better prepared for emergencies and if the ambulance had a trained attendant, Ragavendra could have been saved.
