New Delhi: India’s first Sports University is likely to be set up in Ranchi by utilizing the stadiums and infrastructural facilities of the 34th National Games. Central government and the Jharkhand state government have made a plan, according to which, the stadiums and facilities worth Rs 700 crore that were built for the 34th National Games near Ranchi, would be transformed into India's first central sports university.
A detailed report on the establishment of the Sports University has been submitted by the Central University of Jharkhand (CUJ) to the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry. The report suggests opening of Kendriya Vidyalayas near the university so as to build better linkages with the schools.
As per the proposal, the facilities of 34th National Games will be integrated into institutes that will be a part of the CUJ. The academic configuration of the Sports University will include an amalgamation of curricular programmes in subjects such as sports management, sports medicine, sports psychology, etc along with the sports themselves.
