‘IT-at-School’ Project to offer UID Number to Students in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: On Tuesday i.e. on September 14, 2010, an official has announced that the ‘IT@School’ project will provide a Unique Identity (UID) Number to six million students in Kerala. It is a part of the central government’s Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) initiative, this academic year.
 
UIDAI was established in 2009 by the Government of India, with the developmental mandate of setting up the infrastructure to provide a universal way of uniquely identifying Indian residents.  The government of Kerala has formed a Cabinet Sub-Committee and a state UID Implementation panel to supervise and guide the implementation of the unique ID number in the state. The committee will work under the Chairmanship of Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan.
 
Anvar Sadath, Chief, IT@School, has said that over 12000 in the state will be considered as separate units or groups to enroll for getting the UID. Further, he also said that IT@School obtain necessary details through free software based school management software. The students will go through a biometric scanning of ten fingerprints and iris. They will be photographed and given an enrolment number upon completion.
