Jamiat-Ulema-Hind Demands Reservation For Muslims

New Delhi: Jamiat-Ulema-Hind is demanding that the State Government of Andhra Pradesh should follow West Bengal in giving quota to Muslims in government jobs and educational institutes. The demand was encouraged by the apex court’s interim decision to allow four per cent quota for the Muslims in Andhra Pradesh.

Ashad Madani Mehmood, Rajya Sabha and National Convener of the Jamiat-Ulema-Hind said that they have full faith that the Supreme Court's constitutional bench will uphold the decision. He also stressed that the Hind has fought a public battle against terrorism for the last one decade by holding public demonstrations against it. However, to fight terrorism, there must be an opportunity for all and the feeling that there is no discrimination. Further, he demanded that the Nitish government should introduce 15 per cent quota for Muslims in accordance to the percentage of population of the community in Bihar.

Mr Madani also mentioned that the Hind will be holding its national meet at the historic Gandhi Maidan on April 1, 2010. The meet is organized with the aim to discuss the problems of Muslims. He added that they have invited representatives of all political parties except the BJP, to attend the meeting. Incidentally, Lok Janshakti Party's Rajya Sabha member Sabir Ali is playing a key role in holding of this meeting and he will be the chairman of the Reception Committee. Recently, Ali was in the news because he was among the MPs who opposed the Women's Reservation Bill.
