Haryana: The O P Jindal Global University (JGU) has signed a formal pact with University of Cambridge, UK. The pact is being signed with the motive to offer training to police officers. The course, designed by research scholars and academicians from the field of law and crime from both universities aim to enrich the knowledge of the police officers. The main aim of the pact is to achieve knowledge based policing.
Lawrence W Sherman, Wolfson Professor of Criminology and Director, Police Executive Education, Institute of Criminology, University of Cambridge, has said that the university needs to emphasize on training the police executive officers for strengthening the current police system. He also added that knowledge-based policing is the need of the hour for an improved system supported with evidence based crime prevention.
Furthermore, commenting on the collaboration, Ashwani Kumar, Director, CBI, said that they are ready to strengthen and adopt high standards in the Indian policing system with various pacts being signed. Besides, Crime and criminal tracking network system (CCTNS), Unique Identification Number (UIN) and National Grid are steps taken by the government to inspire an efficient police structure in India.
