Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala will have its first private architecture college soon. As per sources, the first private college of architecture in Kerala will offer admission to 80 students for the five-year Bachelor of Architecture (B Arch) degree course, initially. The college will commence the course from the academic session 2011-2012, sources added.
Further, sources told that the establishment of the college of architecture will cost Rs 18 crores. N Mahesh, Expert Architect and Chairman of the Narayanan & Vaidyanathan Charitable & Educational Trust, said that the college of architecture will offer research facilities in areas like green building technology, construction management and infrastructure planning.
Further, Mr. Mahesh said that the college, in association with the Indian Green Building Council, will facilitate students to obtain necessary professional expertise in sustainable architecture, energy and environmentally-sensitive architecture, through theoretical and practical training. In addition, he told that the E-course in architecture and project management will also be launched shortly.
As per sources, the college of architecture is visualized as a centre of excellence for study and advanced research in architecture, interior design, urban and regional planning, environmental planning, urban design, landscape architecture and structural design.
