Kuala Lumpur: On December 3, 2010, Manipal Education, India’s leading higher education services entity, has announced the establishment of Manipal International University (MIU) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. As per sources, Y B Dato’ Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, Minister of Higher Education, Malaysia, has handed over the contract to start MIU, to Ramdas Pai, Chairman Emeritus - Manipal Education.
Further, sources added that MIU will be a multi-disciplinary university that will furnish the needs of Malaysian students, as well as international students from ASEAN countries, North Asia, India, the Middle East and Central Asia. The university will start its session from next year, sources added. MIU will offer undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) degree level programmes in numerous disciplines.
The disciplines will include various engineering streams, management studies, business and commerce, law, animation and design, and hospitality and tourism. Sources told that the programmes will be designed and developed in close partnership with various industries to facilitate students graduating out of MIU become preferred employees.
Mr. Nordin said that their vision is to be a major higher education hub - they already have nearly 100000 international students studying in Malaysia, and global-class universities such as MIU will only help expand this number, with more and more students all of over the world, including South-East Asia, Asia-Pac, North Asia, Middle-East and North Africa, choosing Malaysia as their preferred destination.
Anand Sudarshan, MD and CEO, Manipal Education said that it is an honor and a moment of great pride for them at Manipal Education to be invited by the Malaysian Government to set up MIU. As per sources, MIU will begin its operations from a temporary campus. Its permanent campus will come up within three years after commencement, sources added.
