Mumbai: Today i.e. December 31, 2010 (Friday), Dr V M Pandharipande has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Maharathwada University in Aurangabad. Dr Pandharipande succeeds Professor Nagnath Kottapalle whose term as Vice Chancellor expired in June, this year.
As per sources, Dr Pandharipande, who is presently the professor and director of Centre for Excellence in Microwave Engineering, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, University College of Engineering, Osmania University, Hyderabad, has been appointed by Maharashtra Governor K Sankaranarayanan, Chancellor of the universities, for a term of five years. According to an official release, the appointment will come into effect from the date Dr Pandharipande assume the charge of the office of the Vice-Chancellor (VC).
Dr V M Pandharipande obtained his bachelor of engineering from Viswesaray regional college of engineering, Nagpur with distinction in 1970. Later, he secured his M Tech from IIT Kharagpur in 1972 again with distinction. He was awarded Ph D by IIT Kharagpur in Microwave Engineering in 1980. He did his research at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai.
In addition, according to the release, the governor had constituted a search committee under the chairmanship of Justice B N Srikrishna to recommend him a panel of names for the post of vice chancellor of the university.
