Srinagar: On December 13, 2010, a top official said that the Maulana Azad National Urdu University will soon be commencing its satellite campus in Srinagar. In addition, the university will also start two women’s polytechnic colleges in Jammu & Kashmir. Professor Muhammad Mian, University Vice Chancellor said that the varsity would offer post-graduate courses in commerce, political science, and Islamic studies.
Further, Mr. Mian said that they would offer Master's degree courses in political science, commerce and Islamic studies in the state through their satellite campus to be set up here. They will also offer degree-level courses in commerce, management and tourism, he added. As per sources, the state government had sited the Maulana Azad National Urdu University in the list of non-recognized universities.
Mr. Mian clarified that the university has a countrywide mandate and the misunderstanding with the state government has been removed. The notification according full recognition to our university has already been issued by the state government, he told the sources. In addition, he said that as most Urdu-knowing literate people are found in Kashmir, their university has decided to set up a satellite campus here. Moreover, the Vice Chancellor informed that they are running a satellite campus in Lucknow which is the other most literate Urdu-knowing place in the country.
