New Delhi: The Medical Council of India (MCI) has asked doctors to register with the state councils wherever they are practicing. The council has decided to make registration mandatory in order to tightening its reins over medical practitioners.
According to the statement issued by MCI Board of Governors' Chief, S.K. Sarin, all medical graduates and postgraduates must register with the state medical councils wherever they are practicing. If the state does not have a council, they must register with the Medical Council of India (MCI).
The MCI chief also mentioned that the undisputed decision on this was taken in a meeting of the state medical councils and MCI last week. He informed that there are 24 active state medical councils. Though they are not under MCI, the council is working in consultation with everyone. Furthermore, he also said that the meeting with the state councils also saw unanimity on the proposal of an anti-quackery bill.
