MCI To Start New Training Facilities

New Delhi: The Medical Council of India (MCI) is now considering tele-classes for the students keeping in mind the major issue of faculty crunch in medical colleges.

Sita Naik, a member of the MCI's board of governors, revealed that MCI is under consideration of an All India Medical College Tele-Medicine Network to conduct distant education through tele-medicine. She added that MCI can solve the problem of shortage of faculty in the medical colleges by introducing the web based programmes.

MCI is also looking for adding five more regional training centers to train medical teachers and modernizing medical education and training facilities. The regional centers will be decided by focusing on those regions, which lack adequate medical education.

Medical Council of India (MCI) has also prioritized the issue of increasing the number of seats as well as courses at the postgraduate level. S.K. Sarin, board of governors' head, said that there are more undergraduate students in India compare to the postgraduates.

According to R.N. Salhan, a board member, MCI has already received 1,300 applications from medical colleges to introduce new courses, which are proposed by the council. As a result, MCI has extended the date to September 30, 2010 (earlier was August 30, 2010) for receiving applications for registering new medical colleges.
