New Delhi: National Institute for Climate and Environmental Studies (NICES) is likely to be setup by the Department of Space (DOS) of Ministry of Science & Technology, with the participation of Ministry of Environment and Forests (MOEF), Department of Science and Technology (DST) and the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MOES).
The consent of the institute includes inter alia, monitoring and measuring the impact of global warming on the Himalayan Glaciers and long term studies on the impacts of climate change.
As said by a press release, the institute is located at National Atmospheric Research Laboratory (NARL) an autonomous laboratory located at Gadanki near Tirupati. However, time frame for setting up the institute has not yet been decided.
