Chennai: On August 18, 2010, Madras Institute of Orthopedics and Traumatology (MIOT) Hospital launched MIOT Academy of Allied Health Sciences. Initially, the academy would offer six undergraduate para professional courses. Affiliated to the Dr MGR University, the academy was launched by the Hindu Editor-in-Chief N Ram in the presence of MIOT Hospital’s Founder and Managing Director, Dr P V A Mohandas and Chairperson, Dr Mallika Mohandas.
The academy would conduct three-year B Sc (Bachelor of Science) courses in Accident and Emergency Care Technology, Cardiac Pulmonary Care Technology, Critical Care Technology, Operation Theatre and Anesthesia Technology, Physician Assistant and Radiology Imaging Technology.
Dr Mohandas, managing director and founder, MIOT hospital, and Professor Dr Sarasa Bharti, Correspondent, MIOT academy, told the sources that the objective of the academy is to churn out skillful talent to help the doctors in treating the patients. They further added that there is a need for a new breed of para professionals. The academy aims at offering skill-based graduate training programme that would significantly remove the unemployment rate in the country.
