Nagaland University (NU) Urges Govt To Resolve The Ongoing Crisis

Kohima: Neiphiu Rio, Nagaland Chief Minister has said that the crisis, which Nagaland University (NU) is going through, is very unfortunate. He also emphasized on the fact that some steps would be initiated to resolve the crisis.

As per sources, on March 11, 2010, during a informal chat with a section of newsmen on the sidelines of the Thanksgiving Service on two years of Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) Government, held at the State Banquet Hall, Mr Rio has said the Vice-Chancellor (VC) and teachers are taking their tussle as a ''prestige issue'' making the students the ultimate victims.

Further, he added that NU is independent agency and the State Government could initiate no action. However, the Government will take some step to negotiate with the fighting parties to resolve the crisis. Meanwhile, Nagaland University Teachers' Association (NUTA) has called for ''total academic closure'' in the NU demanding withdrawal of ''suspension orders'' against some of its members, who were suspended by the VC earlier.
