Orissa Govt Seeks Rs 16000 Crore to Implement Right to Education (RTE) Act

Bhubaneswar: Orissa Government has sought Rs 16000 crore from the central government to implement Right to Education (RTE) Act in the state from April. According to the state government, the state is not in a position to implement the RTE due to scarcity of funds.

Pratap Jena, Orissa's Mass Education Minister has said that in order to implement the RTE Act, the state requires about Rs 16,000 crore. He also added that the ministry has already communicated the state's demand to the centre.

Further, it demanded that Orissa should be treated as a special category state like the northeastern states, and 90 percent of the expenditure for the provision should be borne by the central government.

According to the state government, the state requires about 30,000 more schools, additional infrastructure and teacher recruitment for the implementation of the RTE implementation from April. However, due to lack of funds, it is unable to meet the growing demands of the education sector.
