Punjab CM Assures Jobs to Protesting Trainee Teachers

Chandigarh: On Thursday, i.e. February 25, 2010,Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has asked the agitating unemployed trainee teachers to give up their protest, with the assurance that the government will initiate measures to fill up the vacant posts.

According to the statement of Mr Badal, a confrontational approach will not help them (ETT – elementary teacher training teachers) in any way. The state government is ready to redress their grievances. He said that the government has already directed the concerned officials to work out the modalities for filling up the vacant posts.

Further, he added that merit would be the sole criterion for the selection of ETT teachers, as laid down by the National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE). He said every issue can be resolved through mutual dialogue rather than mounting pressure at the behest of unscrupulous elements.
