13 new government colleges will be set up in the state of Punjab this year, to meet the growing demand of education.

Punjab to Get 13 New Government Colleges

Chandigarh: In the year 2010 on directives issued by State Government, 13 new government colleges will be set up across the state of Punjab. According to the State Government officials, on Thursday i.e. February 4, 2010, a uniform building layout plan for all these colleges was finalized at a meeting between Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and a panel of the University Grants Commission (UGC).
 
As per sources, Mr Badal told the UGC team outlining the government's perspective for higher education in the state that emphasis should be on spreading quality education of global standards in every corner of the state. The setting up of the colleges involves a total expenditure of about Rs 104 crore. Additional colleges are coming up in the state in order to meet the growing demand of education.
 
The colleges are being set up at Sardulgarh (District Mansa), Balachaur (Nawanshahar), Guru Harsahai (Ferozepur), Choong (Tarn Taran), Dhillwan (Barnala), Narot Jaimalsingh (Gurdaspur), Sikhwala (Muktsar), Nihalsinghwala (Moga), Jaito (Faridkot), University College, Ghudda (Bhatinda), University College, Chunni Kalan (Fatehgarh Sahib), Ghanaur (Patiala) and Mithra (Kapurthala).
