Kolkata: Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee has announced that the Human Resource Development (HRD) ministry would be allotted an amount of Rs 2.31 lakh crore, over the next three years to establish infrastructure for implementing the Right to Education (RTE). As per sources, he made the announcement at “Economic vision of the Indian National Congress” seminar held in the city, on Sunday, i.e. August 9, 2010.
This was after HRD Minister (Kapil Sibal) said that Rs 2,31,000 crore will be required for implementing RTE in the next three years for appointment of teachers, setting up schools and building of infrastructure. Mr Sibal also told reporters that there are many issues in the implementation of the RTE law. He also informed that the ministry is meeting all the principals and stakeholders on August 14, 2010 to find out the problems and discuss the way out.
In the seminar, Mr Mukherjee confirmed that the money will be provided. Additionally, he said that the Centre would provide legal teeth to the Right to Health and Right to Food through a legal enactment. He said providing such rights and budgetary support to implement those programmes were made possible because of the economic growth that India had achieved over the past few years.
