Coimbatore: As per the official press release, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Institute of Textiles Management, Coimbatore, has been upgraded to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International School of Textiles and Management (SVPISTM), to cater to the requirements of textiles industry.
For the first time in India, the international school will conduct an integrated post graduation programme of five-year duration - B. Tech, in Technical Textiles + MBA, from next year i.e. 2011. The school will also offer PGDM programme in Retail Management.
The upgradation of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Institute of Textiles Management Coimbatore came up by the signing of MoU between the institute and Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) here on Wednesday i.e. July 7, 2010. The MoU was signed in the presence of Union Textiles Minister Dayanidhi Maran, Minister of State for Textiles Panabaaka Lakshmi, Secretary (Textiles) Rita Menon, IGNOU vice chancellor V.N. Rajasekharan Pillai and senior officers of the Ministry.
Maran revealed that under the MoU, the institute will impart three new courses - MBA in Textile Management, M. Phil and PhD along with three months and six months programmes through distance education mode, as an addition to the new course, that is, MBA in Textile Management (started on a regular basis by the Institute from the next year). Maran added that the institute is seeking to tie-ups with foreign universities, particularly with Czech Republic and Italy, for the courses.
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International School of Textile Management (SVPISTM) came into existence in 2002 as an autonomous institution under the management of the Ministry of Textiles. It imparts education, training, consultancy and research in the field of Textile Management at its Coimbatore Campus.
