Sarva Shikhya Abhiyan (SSA) in Tripura Gets Rs 154 Crore

Agartala: The Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has sanctioned an amount of Rs 154 crore for the Sarva Shikhya Abhiyan (SSA) in the financial year 2010-11. Further, MHRD has also given its approval to the proposal of setting up of 141 new primary and upper-primary schools in remote areas Tripura.
 
Banamali Sinha, Principal Secretary of School Education, has said that the ministry had appreciated the performance of the state in the current financial year. Therefore, the ministry has sanctioned Rs 4 crore, more than the state's demand. Further, he pointed out that as per the instructions of MHRD, the state government would recruit about 11000 more cooks for various schools, where mid-day meal programme has been operating.
 
Mr Sinha also declared that the ministry was pleased with Tripura's proposal to set up Home-Based Education Programme (HBEP). HBEP is designed for physically challenged children, who were unable to attend schools, in an attempt to bring all children (aged 6 to 14 years) under the learning process. For HBEP, the state government had appointed some Education Volunteers (EV) to serve the educational needs of these Children with Special Needs (CWSN), at their homes and the Centre would fund their education, he added.
 
Moreover, Mr Sinha mentioned that Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty had reviewed the progress of total literacy campaign yesterday i.e. on March 11, 2010, and announced that Tripura would be declared a fully literate state before August 15, 2010.
