New Delhi: South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) is yet undecided regarding the salaries that are to be paid to faculty members of the proposed South Asian University. India is asking for a higher pay bracket, which is not going down too well with other nations. The proposed South Asian University will begin operations this year in August.
As per sources, the faculty salaries may be slashed down upto one third as the running cost that was to be borne by all the countries has gone down from $102 million to $64 million. This is because although India was ready to contribute its share to SAARC, other nations were unwilling about doing the same.
Prof. G.K. Chaddha, Chief Executive Officer of the university, has expressed his dissatisfaction about the judgment that was taken last month, at the Steering Committee meeting and might be backed by foreign secretaries of SAARC nations.
