Supreme Court Approves MCI's Common Medical Entrance Test

New Delhi: On December 13, 2010, the honorable Supreme Court (SC) has given its approval to Medical Council of India (MCI) to conduct a common medical entrance test for Undergraduate (UG) medical courses. As per sources, apex court bench said that the central government did not need the court's approval for framing the rules and regulations for the examination. The bench was headed by Justice R V Ravindran, sources added.

Further, sources told that the MCI can make rules for conducting a common medical entrance test. In addition, sources informed that the MCI has already come out with a scheme for common medical entrance test being conducted for UG medical courses. But many State Governments have been opposing the step of MCI, so the MCI knocked the door of Supreme Court in order to get its approval for the entrance test.
