Mumbai: Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) in Mumbai, Maharstara, will conduct the Third JTCDM International Roundtable on Humanitarian Logistics: Scope and Challenges on April 21 & 22, 2010. This roundtable is a step towards creating synergies between government agencies, nongovernment organizations, corporate, civil society initiatives and so on, to facilitate better coordination and reach of humanitarian response.
During the roundtable a range of issues, challenges and operations may be represented. Papers could focus on any of the following proposed themes: 1. Humanitarian Logistics: Frameworks, Perspectives and Theories in SCM, 2. Integrated Logistics Systems for disasters, 3. Government response systems and challenges they face, 4. Organizational structures for managing disaster logistics, 5. Information technology in humanitarian logistics, 6. Challenges in procurement, packaging, stocking, 7. Transportation networks and last mile delivery, 8. Aid Logistics, 9. Health and humanitarian logistics, 10. Financial issues in humanitarian logistics, 11. Performance measurement and accountability, 12. Lessons from the armed forces, 13. Lessons from case studies, 14. Logistics challenges in conflict zones, 15. Use of GIS in disaster logistics.
Established in the year 1936, the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), initially, was known as Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work. In the year 1964 it was recognized as a Deemed University by the Government of India (GoI). Since then, the TISS has been expanding continuously in terms of educational programmes and infrastructure.
