TNOU Likely To Introduce Community Radio

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Open University (TNOU) is all set up introduce a community radio for imparting lessons for their students. As per sources, the announcement was made while inaugurating a two-day orientation programme for the coordinators and programme incharges of study centers of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU).
 
During the function, Prof A Kalyani, TNOU Vice Chancellor (VC) has said that the university has plans to tie up with IGNOU to offer associate degrees in affiliated community colleges. She mentioned that the Tamil Nadu state government had sanctioned Rs 1000 scholarship to each student of 118 affiliated community colleges. Moreover, she added that study materials of the courses offered by TNOU would be provided in the form of CD also.
 
Dr K Panneerselvam, Regional Director of IGNOU, while presiding over the function said that IGNOU would soon find out more employment opportunities for the students. He added that the university is also trying to find out ways for giving scholarships for the deserving students. In addition, Dr S Shanmugaiya, Registrar of TNOU said that the ministry of human resources had sanctioned an amount of Rs 4 crore for the university’s various academic activities.
