UGC Pay Scale for Meghalaya College Teachers Gets Cabinet’s Approval

Shillong: Meghalaya government has given its nod for the implementation of the revised University Grant Commission (UGC) pay scale and Dearness Allowance (DA) to college teachers with retrospective, effect from January 1, 2006.
 
M Ampareen Lyngdoh, Education Minister, said the Cabinet had decided to implement the new UGC pay scale, considering the demand of the college teachers. The last revision of pay for the college teachers was in 1996. She said that the financial implication in order to clear the arrears would amount to Rs 70 crore. 

Also, the state would bear 20 per cent of the total salary to be paid to the teachers as per the UGC norms. The rest 80 per cent will be borne by the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development. Ms Lyngdoh also mentioned that the government was working on the ways and means to increase pay and allowances to other categories of teachers as well.
