New Delhi: Today i.e. on October 6, 2010, the Union Cabinet has given its approval to the proposal of acquiring expenditure of Rs 3000 crore for establishing 13 Central Universities and converting three State Universities into Central Universities. As per sources, the establishment of 16 Central Universities will boost access and improve quality of higher education in the country.
16 Central Universities were established in various states by the Central Universities Act, 2009. Out of them, 13 are new Central Universities, whereas, three universities have been established by alteration of previous State Universities into Central Universities.
