Kadapa: A Ramachandra, Vice Chancellor (VC) of Yogi Vemana University announced the launch two new courses in Materials Science and Metallurgical Studies. Also, as per the announcement the Union Minister of State for Steel, A. Sai Prathap has agreed to grant a fund of Rs 10 lakhs for running the courses through the National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC).
As per sources, a proposition to Chief Minister K. Rosaiah and the Education Secretary on April 8, to acquire funds worth Rs 200 crore in order to enhance the university into a global one, is also being speculated. In addition, it was also being announced that the university would be conducting a common entrance examination all over the Rayalaseema region and would admit 1500 students. Moreover, the construction of a central library on the university campus would begin in May and will be completed by October 2010.
Furthermore, Mr Ramachandra also mentioned that they are developing a uniform fee structure for all courses and until their financial health improves, there would be delays in some appointments. However, he is hopeful that the University will succeed in getting affiliation from the University Grants Commission (UGC). Prof. Reddy has reasoned that the university was imparting education that was of equal quality as that of Central Universities and that there is one faculty member for every 10 students.
