Mumbai: Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS), Mumbai, has announced to offer two new online courses namely - a leadership course in biodiversity conservation and a basic course in entomology.
The registration for the respective courses is on for the session 2011-12. Candidates interested to learn about biodiversity and its conservation can enroll these courses. The minimum qualification required for admission into these courses is Class 10 with or without a background in science, basic computer proficiency and willingness to dedicate at least two hours every day for course work. The content for both of the courses has been developed by subject matter experts. Online chat sessions with experts, field trips, weekly assignments online, will form a part of the course. Founded on 15 September 1883, Bombay Natural History Society, also known as BNHS, is located in Mumbai. This society is one of the largest non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in India which is engaged in conservation and biodiversity research. In more than 127 years of its existence, this society’s commitment has been, and continues to be, the conservation of India's natural wealth, protection of the environment and sustainable use of natural resources for a balanced and healthy development for future generations.
Many prominent naturalists, including the ornithologists Sálim Ali and S. Dillon Ripley have been associated with the society. Due to its various research works, BNHS has been designated as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO) by the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India.
