CAT Coaching Centers Commence Weekend Courses

Ahmedabad: Common Admission Test (CAT) coaching centers will commence weekend courses as more and more young executives are looking forward to appear for the test. As per sources, short-term courses are in more demand than the traditional 18 months programme. Reason behind this is that youngsters want to prepare for CAT while performing a fulltime job, sources added.

Hitesh Devalia, partner at the Ahmedabad coaching centre Endeavor, said that many working professionals do not need a classroom environment to prepare for CAT. They have started an online portal for them, and find that some 200 students from Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune, Mysore, Gandhinagar and Vadodara, regularly log onto the site to study. The institute also plans to launch video-based coaching classes for working people, he added.

Moreover, sources informed that PT Education of Indore has seen a growth of seven percent in enrollment by students with work experience. Manish Saraf, COO of PT Education said that they want some professional management education before their next job. Further, he added that they will need to have tailor-made courses, with more soft skills development modules and personal counseling, for these candidates.

As per sources, number of students taking CAT is decreasing year by year. In 2008, 2.71 lakh students appeared for CAT, in 2009, when the test became computer-based around 2.42 lakh candidates took the test and in 2010, 2.04 lakh students appeared for it. Kamlesh Sajnani, MD of IMS Learning Resources said that overall the number of students taking CAT is decreasing but they see a significant increase in the number of candidates with work experience.
