Centre Gives Consent to Open 30 More Central Universities

Dharwad: Sukhadev Thorat, University Grants Commission (UGC) former Chairperson said that the Centre has given its approval to open 30 more central universities. As per sources, the step has been taken in order to enhance the quality of higher education in the country.
 
Mr. Thorat said that the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh was keen on giving better touch to higher education in India with a view to compete or even excel in the field of education. He said this while delivering convocation address at the 61st convocation of the Karnataka University.
 
Further, Mr. Thorat told the sources that the Prime Minister has consented to open 372 colleges in backward regions and give two percent scholarship and also support by enhancing financial allocation by about ten times. In addition, he informed that there was a dire need to give quality touch to higher education to be in demand globally and also help development of nation.
