Hisar: The centre will provide training and education in technical skills to 50 crore people by the year 2022. Ashwani Kumar, Union Minister of State for Science & Technology told the sources that the step has been taken in order to handle the problem of unemployment among the youth and create a human resource pool.
Further, Mr. Kumar said that this herculean endeavour will need reorientation of scientific and technical education and a more dynamic approach to vocational training. He added that the Central government had decided to set up an Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research with powers to award degrees, and a Bill for the purpose would be introduced in the coming Budget session of Parliament.
Besides, Mr. Kumar informed the sources about the launch of Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE). In this regard, he said that the Department of Science and Technology had launched INSPIRE to attract young minds to creative pursuits of science and build a human resource pool for strengthening and expanding science and technology system, and building up Research and Development base in the country.
As per sources, around 3.07 lakh awards had been approved under this programme. The awards cost around Rs 153.25 crore, sources added. In addition, sources informed that the awards include 4500 awards for pursuing B Sc and M Sc degrees and 499 fellowships for pursuing PhD degrees. Moreover, Mr. Kumar said that they face the daunting national challenge in areas of food production, water, health, energy conservation and environment protection which await scientific and technological solutions.
