Shimla: Health Minister Dr. Rajiv Bindal told that Dr. RP Government Medical College Tanda has been signed up as World Health Organization (WHO) collaborating centre in India. According to a press release issued by the state government, the college has been enlisted for specialties viz. AYUSH role in NCDs, Health Promotion and Training of AYUSH practitioners under National programmes.
Further, Dr. Bindal added that Dr. RP Government Medical College, Tanda is one of the 19 institutions established as WHO Collaborating Centres for grant of fellowships and the only centre in northern India. Moreover, he informed that the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India has been training doctors and other health professionals under the WHO fellowship programme in India as well as in other countries.
Furthermore, Dr. Bindal said that the skills thus acquired by WHO sponsored training should be utilized to improve the health services in the country. He added that during the biennium 2008-2009, about 575 health professionals were awarded WHO Fellowships in prestigious institutions within the country and in foreign countries such as Thailand and Australia. Besides, he informed the sources that the each fellowship would be of three months duration.
Dr. Bindal informed that professionals from AYUSH and Allopathy (BAMS, BHMS, and BUMS) are eligible. Apart from these, candidates possessing MBBS degree are also eligible. He said that fellowship would be coordinated by the Department of Community Medicine, Dr. RP Government Medical College Tanda. The state government press release informed that applications for fellowship should reach to Section Officer, International Health Division, Department of Health, Room No. 648, A Wing, MOHFW, Nirman Bhawan, New Delhi on or before February 21, 2011.
